The Case For Luxury Vinyl Plank
LVP is waterproof, easy to clean and looks like wood or stone. If a little water ever comes in, you mop it up and move on. It is our first recommendation for basements with any history of moisture and for spaces that get heavy use.
The Case For Carpet
Carpet is warmer underfoot, quieter and more comfortable for a family room, playroom or bedroom. With a good pad it takes the chill off a concrete slab. It is the better choice when the basement is dry and comfort matters most.
Mixing Both
Plenty of basements use vinyl plank in the main areas, the bathroom and the laundry room, and carpet in the bedrooms or the media area. Clean transitions between the two keep it looking intentional.
Prep The Slab Either Way
Whichever you choose, the concrete needs to be clean, level and dry before anything goes down. A vapor barrier or the right underlayment is cheap insurance against problems later.
